Woody Johnson wants New York to host another Super Bowl
- Updated: March 22, 2016

Jets owner Woody Johnson would love to see the Super Bowl back at MetLife Stadium again.
One Super Bowl in New York (well, New Jersey) apparently wasn’t enough for Woody Johnson. He wants it back.
The Jets owner said Monday that Gang Green and the Giants are serious about trying to bring the Super Bowl back to MetLife Stadium.
“Yeah, we are as serious as you can get. I think we did a good job,” Johnson told reporters at the league meetings in Boca Raton, Fla. “We raised a ton for charities. We put on a great stage. It wasn’t a great game but it was a great stage, and the weather was even extremely good. I would love to do it.”
Al Kelly was the president and CEO of the Super Bowl host committee when MetLife Stadium hosted the game following the 2013 season.
Super Bowls traditionally aren’t played in outdoor stadiums in cold weather cities, though the league decided to give it a shot in 2013. The weather turned out to be unseasonably mild for February, making it a non-issue.
Johnson noted that New York/New Jersey would have an advantage in convincing other owners because they would automatically start with two votes.
NO WILKERSON DEAL YET: Johnson noted Monday how long the Jets and Muhammad Wilkerson have been unable to negotiate a long-term deal for.
“It’s amazing, since we’ve been negotiating with him for a few years now,” Johnson said.
Wilkerson has been franchise tagged but could be traded with the Jets having other options at defensive end.
Asked if the Jets have made a fair offer to the Pro Bowl defensive end, Johnson said, “I’m not going to characterize the offer. If we made him a fair offer, he didn’t accept it. ‘Fair’ is a subjective thing. It’s got to be acceptable to him and us. When we work that out, it’ll all be good.”
