Minnesota Wild assistant coach Darryl Sydor was arrested Thursday afternoon by Fridley police under suspicion of drunken driving.

He is facing two gross misdemeanor counts of second-degree driving while impaired but also could face child endangerment charges, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, which reported that Sydor was pulled over while driving his 12-year-old son to his son’s hockey game.

Sydor, 43, remained in jail as of 3:30 p.m. ET Friday, according to the Anoka County Sherriff’s Office website, and was expected to make his initial court appearance on Friday afternoon.

Police have charged Sydor, a two-time Stanley Cup champion and former standout NHL defenseman, with “second-degree driving while impaired-(two) or more aggravating factors” and “operating motor vehicle-alcohol concentration 0.08 within (two) hours.”

Darryl Sydor has been an assistant coach with the Wild for the past four seasons.

Sydor failed field sobriety tests, and his blood alcohol level showed as 0.30 on another test, according to the Star-Tribune.

The Wild released a statement Friday morning saying: “We are aware of the reports regarding Darryl Sydor. We are continuing to gather information and will have further comment at the appropriate time.”

Sydor won the Stanley Cup as a player with the Dallas Stars in 1999 and the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004.
