Swedish hockey player banned for two years after vicious hit
- Updated: March 21, 2016
That’ll teach him.
A hockey player was banned for two years by the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation after a vicious hit on an opponent.
Viktor Thomasson, 23, had his sentence handed down on Friday, following the hit on March 9.
The Nacka defenseman slid halfway across the ice in a game against Balsta HC to skate into the head of forward Tommy Latouche-Gauvin.

Viktor Thomasson, 23, was banned for two years by the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation after a vicious hit on an opponent.
The hit came after Latouche-Gauvin had tangled with Thomasson’s brother, Daniel, earlier in the game.
“(Thomasson) is very remorseful,” said Nacka coach Håkan Ferm, according to Sports Illustrated.
“He has a certain style of play and it happens sometimes that it crosses the line. But he is very sorry that he might have injured another player, and that he hurt our team as well.”
Latouche-Gauvin reportedly suffered neck pain, but no serious side effects.
Thomasson is expected to appeal the decision.
