Broncos offensive lineman Ryan Clady blocks for Knowshon Moreno.

That was fast.

On the same day D’Brickashaw Ferguson made his retirement official, the Jets traded for his replacement. Gang Green has dealt for former Broncos tackle Ryan Clady, according to source. Gang Green is giving up a 2016 fifth-round pick in exchange for the tackle and a 2016 seventh-rounder, according to a source.

Clady, who has played seven seasons in the NFL, started 16 games last season for the Broncos.

Clady was scheduled to earn $ 9.5 million in 2016 and $ 10 million in 2017, but is re-structuring his deal, the Daily News learned. Gang Green had been talking with the Broncos and feared they had lost leverage once news of Ferguson’s retirement surfaced.

While he spoke candidly about concussions in December, D’Brickashaw Ferguson was never diagnosed with one in his 10-year career.

D’Brickashaw Ferguson is 32 years old and played 10 years in the NFL and the only snap he missed in his career came on a trick play.

So, he is not part of the epidemic of young players in the last two years who are getting out of the NFL early rather than risk brain injury, even though it’s before they max out on their earnings potential. Ferguson made $ 67 million with the Jets and never was diagnosed with a concussion and never once was on the injury report.

Why did Ferguson quit and why did he wait until April? He was coming off a subpar year, did not receive a strong endorsement from Todd Bowles and the Jets recently approached him looking to slash his $ 10.375 million salary and the $ 14.1 million in cap space he was devouring. He also didn’t live up to his own standards and with the Jets offseason program starting April 18, he clearly felt he didn’t have it in him to play another year.

But: Was Ferguson willing to fight through the season for $ 10 million but not $ 5 million?

But then remember the three letters that are scaring the hell out of NFL players: CTE. The degenerative brain disease linked to concussions. The more information that comes out, the scarier it gets.

Ferguson said some compelling things after the movie “Concussion” was released late last season. He was upset how the NFL downplayed the impact of concussions when he first came into the league in 2006. “After learning all of this, I feel a bit betrayed by the people or committees put in place by the league who did not have my best interests at heart,” he wrote in a piece for Sports Illustrated.

He also wrote, “When I initially heard about 49ers linebacker Chris Borland, who decided to retire after one professional season for the risk of brain injury, I thought perhaps he was acting very abruptly, but now I cannot fault him. If we know the risks, then why do we still play?”

Bills linebacker A.J. Tarpley retired last week at the age of 23. He suffered the third and fourth concussions of his football career in 2015 in his rookie season in the NFL. “I am walking away from the game I love to preserve my future health,” he said. “This decision is the hardest I’ve made yet but after much research and contemplation I believe it’s what is best for me going forward.”

The final play of his career was an interception of Ryan Fitzpatrick in the last game of the season that knocked the Jets out of the playoffs.

Chris Borland opens eyes by retiring after just one NFL season due to concerns about head injuries.

Ferguson is one of the lucky ones. He made an incredible amount of money and leaves the game healthy.

Borland, who retired after the 2014 season, has become a trendsetter: Young players are choosing their long-term health over life-changing money.

“Well, the old adage is that you play till the wheels fall off,” Borland told the Detroit Free Press. “You play till you can’t anymore. You have to be carried off the field. I think that’ll change.”

Borland said he didn’t watch one game last year other than if he was at a friend’s house. He said he doesn’t anticipate letting his kids play football. “It could be the greatest game in the world, but simultaneously maybe the worst,” he said at a recent conference. “And the crux of the issue for me, I think, is that what makes it so great is also what makes it detrimental and scary and everything — the violence. So I don’t regret my decision. Miss the game, but that time was going to come at a certain point anyway, so moved on with my life.”

Ferguson got his 10 years in. It may not be long before that exceeds what anybody else is able to do.

QUICK DRAFT HITS

The Titans are trying to stir up business for the No. 1 pick in the April 28 draft. But it makes sense for them to stay put and take Mississippi left tackle Laremy Tunsil to protect quarterback Marcus Mariota, who was beat up his rookie year. They could then move Taylor Lewan, their No. 1 pick in 2014, to right tackle… The Eagles moved up from the 13th spot to the eighth spot when they traded Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso to the Dolphins, at least putting them in position to make an attractive offer to the Titans. Philly wants North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz even though it just signed Sam Bradford to a two-year $ 35 million deal with $ 22 million guaranteed. The Eagles are going to have to jump over the Browns at No. 2 to get Wentz, who has distanced himself from Cal’s Jared Goff as the top QB despite the low level of college competition. But Joe Flacco has done pretty well coming from an FCS school at Delaware. Former Cowboys VP Gil Brandt is impressed by Wentz’s athletic ability, arm and intelligence but says, “you’re always concerned” with players from smaller schools. Goff played well for a mediocre team at Cal. Paxton Lynch, the 6-7 QB from Memphis, is an intriguing prospect. “If you looked at him against Ole Miss, you’re going to pick him in the first round,” Brandt said. “If you look at him against Auburn, you wouldn’t bring him to camp.” Wentz and Goff are a step down from Jameis Winston and Mariota, who went 1-2 last year. “They can get you into the playoffs. I don’t know if you can win a Super Bowl with them,” Brandt said. “I thought the two guys last year were guys who can get you to a Super Bowl.”

SALARY KAEP

Unhappy with the 49ers, Colin Kaepernick is being asked to pay his own way out of San Francisco.Christian Petersen/Getty Images

Unhappy with the 49ers, Colin Kaepernick is being asked to pay his own way out of San Francisco.

Colin Kaepernick’s $ 11.9 million contract became guaranteed April 1. The Broncos want to sign him to a new two-year $ 14 million deal, which would require Kaepernick to give up about $ 5 million. As miserable as he apparently is in San Francisco, why should he pay his way out? Remember, the baseball players union put the kibosh on the Texas Rangers attempt to trade A-Rod to the Red Sox in 2004 when Boston wanted him to take a pay cut even though Rodriguez had agreed to the deal. If the baseball players union is the big bad gorilla, the NFLPA is nothing more than an annoying mosquito to the folks at 345 Park Avenue. But as long as Kaepernick doesn’t give back any guaranteed money, the union does not have to worry about a bad precedent being set… Greg Hardy clearly did the ESPN interview to attempt to clean up his image with no team stepping up to sign him. It didn’t work. In fact, it may have forced teams to run even further away.

BAD RETURNS

The intention of the new rule putting the ball at the 25-yard line on a touchback is to further reduce the motivation for kickoff returns, which is considered one of the most dangerous plays in the game. Moving the kickoff from the 30 to the 35 in 2011 severely cut down on returns. But here’s the unintended consequence of the new touchback rule: Rather than conceding the offense a starting position at the 25, kickers will surely be instructed to practice popping the ball up high and short of the goal line, giving the coverage teams a chance to get down the field with a good opportunity to bring the runner down inside the 25. The extra returns could lead to more injuries, which is exactly what the NFL wants to avoid.

FANSUIT

Seven Patriots fans have sued the NFL, Roger Goodell and Robert Kraft to force the league to return New England’s first-round pick, which Goodell took away as part of the Deflategate penalties. Of course, the legal action has no chance, but imagine if fans could be awarded damages from lawsuits when they feel wronged by their team. Jets Nation could get untold riches from the cruel and unusual punishment of their team not making the Super Bowl for the last 47 years… Mark Sanchez has put together Broncos West just like he did Jets West and Eagles West for some off-season throwing with teammates in California. If nothing else, Sanchez is an excellent camp counselor. He recruited Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders among others to work out with him in Mission Viejo. He doesn’t seem concerned that Kaepernick could be competing with him this summer to take over as the starting QB for the defending Super Bowl champs. “Listen, I don’t care who is there, what is going on right now. They are going to give me a fair shake, that’s all I can ask for, a fair shot. I am good. Let’s go. I will bet on myself and compete my butt off,” he told the Denver Post. “I will be friendly and professional with whoever is there. But I want this bad. Really bad. I want what they experienced last year.”

D’Brickashaw Ferguson says that a desire ‘to pursue other goals in life’ led him to retire.

D’Brickashaw Ferguson formally announced his retirement Saturday morning in a letter posted on the team’s official website. The three-time Pro Bowl left tackle never missed a snap due to injury in his 10-year career. He’ll be honored in the team’s Ring of Honor one day. His thank you letter to fans, teammates, etc. is below:

My Fans,

As I considered the words I would say to you, I recognize a simple truth: It just isn’t easy saying goodbye.

MEHTA: FERGUSON RETIREMENT PROMPTS QUESTIONS ABOUT JETS

I can still remember what it felt like almost 10 years ago as I walked across the stage at Radio City Music Hall. I was selected fourth overall in the 2006 NFL draft and was overwhelmed with the enormity of such an occasion. The loud cheers and clapping hands still echo in my memories. It was a very special moment for me then, as it is now.

But today we celebrate a different type of moment, one that marks the completion of a journey versus the start of one. Today marks my retirement from the NFL as a professional football player.

I am sure some of you might be pondering: Why now? Well, my goal coming into this league was to become the best player I could be. I never wanted to define myself by the size of a potential contract, but rather by my ability to compete with the best that the game could offer. Though I was successful in accomplishing that feat largely throughout my career, the difficulty in playing at such a level began to increase.

I also recognized a desire in myself to pursue other goals in life, and because there isn’t always a discernable point in professional sports where one must retire, the decision becomes a very personal one that all athletes must decide on their own.

JETS ASK D’BRICKSHAW FERGUSON TO TAKE PAY CUT IN ORDER TO HELP RE-SIGN RYAN FITZPATRICK

An NFL career at times mimics life, in that you experience success and failure, you learn the value of hard work, and you also recognize that sometimes, despite your best efforts, it still may take a little luck to achieve your goals.

I am proud of what I have accomplished in this league, but football has also taught me that you can’t do it all alone. Others have sacrificed so much to allow me the opportunity to be where I am today, people who have paved the way before me, people who have invested in my life and willingly worked with me to help me achieve my dreams.

So I would like to thank those people, but I first would like to thank God for keeping me and directing me along this journey. I would like to thank my family, my wife, my daughter, parents and brother, my friends, the NFL, Woody Johnson and the entire New York Jets organization, the University of Virginia, and my Freeport, NY, community. I would like to thank every coach, every teammate, and every fan that has shown me support throughout my career. I sincerely thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Brandon Marshall left the courthouse once the case went to the jury and did not return, so he was not in the room when the verdict was read.

Jets star Brandon Marshall won the civil suit levied against him by a California woman in Manhattan federal court for assault and battery on Friday.

Christin Myles, who accused Marshall of punching her in the face outside the Marquee nightclub on Mar. 11, 2012, sought damages for his medical expenses and her pain and suffering.

The jury deliberated for just over an hour before reaching a verdict in Marshall’s favor.

Asked if it was close, one juror said, “No.”

“The video was grainy,” the juror, who did not want to be identified, added. “There was argument that he may or may not have throw a punch. But there was no evidence that the punch is actually what injured her.”

Marshall left the courthouse once the case went to the jury and did not return, so he was not in the room when the verdict was read.

Myles was, and remained still as the jury indicated it had ruled against her.

Marshall’s attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said Marshall “bears no ill will toward Ms. Myles.”

“He stands up for what he believes is right…and he wasn’t going to pay a penny to get out of this because he didn’t do anything wrong,” Steinberg said. He said he was bound by the court not to discuss if there had been a settlement offer but insinuated, based on his comments, that there had not been one.

Multiple media outlets, including the Daily News, requested that the video of the alleged punch be distributed so it could be released. That has not yet occurred though it could in the coming days.

Marshall’s attorneys said in court they will file a motion to recoup costs from the trial.

Myles had been seeking $ 75,000 in damages.

Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have won four Super Bowls together.

No, it’s not that far-fetched, even if some NFL fans decide to rip it.

But on Thursday, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick dubbed his longtime quarterback, Tom Brady, as “the greatest quarterback of all-time.”

Belichick was speaking at the 2016 Salesforce World Tour event, according to ESPN, when he uttered the words that will get many outside Patriots nation talking. Belichick spoke at the event one year after Brady was a speaker at the event. That led to a comment about following Brady, and the fact that those at the event had plenty to clean up after Brady’s appearance.

“Oh, I can imagine,” Belichick said, according to weei.com. “We have to do that at the stadium, [all the people] paying homage to him. You know … greatest quarterback of all time. He’s been a tremendous leader and tremendous player for our organization.”

Brady, of course, is squarely in the conversation among the best QBs of all-time, with four Super Bowl titles, three Super Bowl MVPs and two NFL MVPs and 11 Pro Bowl berths.

“He’s been just a tremendous leader and tremendous player for our organization,” Belichick said of Brady, according to ESPN.

Brady is coming off a season in which he threw 36 TDs and just seven interceptions. The Patriots have missed the playoffs just twice since Brady took over for Drew Bledsoe as statrting quarterback in 2001, and in one of those seasons, Brady was injured in Week 1 and didn’t play again that year.

Belichick attributed much of that success to Brady’s presence, talking of how the Pats continually unearth untested talents, but stressing that you need “great players” to continue to win.

“We’ve had to find different ways to capitalize on the talent that’s available. Otherwise, we’re going to get like the fifth-, sixth-, seventh-best guy at whatever the position is. So we’ve tried to take more of our way in areas that are less populated,” he said.

A.J. Tarpley says he suffered his third and fourth concussions last season with the Bills.

Another NFL player has decided to retire early citing concerns about the damages of concussions.

A.J. Tarpley — who ended the Jets’ season with an interception of Ryan Fitzpatrick in Buffalo in Week 17 — announced his retirement Wednesday evening in an Instagram post of the play.

“The only thing comforting about not knowing this play would be the last of my career, is knowing that I never took a second for granted,” Tarpley wrote. “After months of introspection, I am retiring from football. I suffered the 3rd and 4th concussions of my career this past season and I am walking away from the game I love to preserve my future health.”

“This decision is the hardest I’ve made yet but after much research and contemplation I believe it’s what is best for me going forward,” Tarpley wrote. I’d like to extend my gratitude to everyone that helped me along the way.”

Tarpley’s retirement comes on the heels of Husain Abdullah’s announcment last month that he was walking away from the game. Chris Borland retired from the NFL in 2015 following a standout rookie season with the 49ers, saying that he was concerned about brain damage, and a number of players have recently retired citing similar concerns.

Terron Beckham, cousin of Giants star Odell Beckham Jr., has been working out at TEST Sports Club in Martinsville, N.J.

Now Terron Beckham really has the NFL’s attention.

If you didn’t think Odell Beckham Jr.’s cousin was for real, there he was on Thursday afternoon, wowing a handful of NFL scouts in a stunning Pro Day workout showing at TEST Sports Club in Martinsville, N.J. And after the session was over, an Indianapolis Colts scout spent extra time with Beckham, working him through one-on-one running back drills.

When that was done, a Giants scout had a lengthy conversation with the workout warrior turned NFL prospect.

“Things are kind of just moving and moving, and I like it,” Beckham said. “It’s good. It’s keeping me motivated.”

ODELL AND THEN WHAT? HOW GIANTS CAN SOLVE WR PROBLEM

When this new Beckham first emerged as an NFL prospect shortly before the NFL Scouting Combine in February, some saw a mere hype story, a bodybuilder with boundless athleticism who just happened to be the cousin of a certain Giants receiver. He seemed to have a shot at the NFL purely because of his last name; he hadn’t played the game since high school.

He’s not eligible for the NFL draft, his agent Mike Celli said, but he can sign with any team in the league right now. And interest is growing. Why wouldn’t any team want an athlete like this on its 90-man training camp roster?

On Thursday, Beckham worked out in front of representatives from the Giants, Colts, Jets, Raiders and 49ers, and he did enough to impress some. It remains unknown how he’ll perform on the football field, whether a weight room champion really can morph into an NFL running back.

But scouts seem increasingly willing to give him a chance to prove himself, and the show he put on at the TEST facility certainly helped. After weighing in at 223 pounds, Beckham delivered a massinve 44.5-inch vertical leap, a figure that would have been the best at the Combine and was just a half-inch off Chiefs receiver Chris Conley’s record at the Combine just a year ago.

It was a leap that the scouts were barely ready for: Beckham’s initial vertical leap was 43.5 inches, and it maxed out the testing apparatus. Scouts were forced to re-measure the apparatus before Beckham could record his best jump of the day.

GIANTS MAILBAG: DON’T EXPECT A DAY 1 DRAFT TRADE

Beckham’s 40-yard dash was just as impressive. He was hoping to record a time in the 4.45-second range, he said, and while there was no official electronic time on his two runs, his explosion during the sprint was obvious. A TEST Sports Club official clocked him at 4.47 seconds, and media members had him between 4.40 and 4.53 seconds.

Even at his slowest, Beckham seems fast enough to stick at running back, and he showed the suddenness and change-of-direction ability needed to survive at the position in the last two timed drills of the day, recording impressive unofficial times in the three-cone drill (6.8 seconds) and the short shuttle (4.18 seconds) showcased explosion. His three-cone drill would have been best among running backs at this year’s Combine, and his short shuttle would have ranked second best.

Beckham blended those numbers with an impressive show of strength on the bench press, lifting 225 pounds 36 times, a figure that would have been the best at the Combine at any position (yes, that includes offensive linemen).

Beckham also ran several routes, operating as both a receiver and a running back. He did drop two passes, although he insisted that his hands are not a problem. It’s a tantalizing overall package of athleticism even if Beckham is raw, said one AFC scout.

“He tests very well,” the scout said. “But he hasn’t played football since high school, so we really don’t know.”

Reservations will likely remain for Beckham until he proves his abilities in a football setting, but the athleticism has drawn the NFL’s eye. And while Beckham said he doesn’t yet have any workouts lined up, he does hope – and believe – that he’s made enough of an impression to have earned a few chances.

“I’m definitely waiting on some calls,” he said. “I’m not sure about any visits yet but I have no doubt that it will happen.

“I need to make sure my goal is complete.”

In the video, the two athletes traded off describing pictures from their past. When Rousey held up a picture of Beckham and Drake, Beckahm shouted, “OVO,” meaning October’s Very Own, the name of Drake’s record label.

“That’s my guy right there,” Beckham said. “It’s somebody whose mindset is the same as yours and they want nothing but success. They want to be the best. We just click on a level like that. And this really was the start of a becoming friendship that’ll carry through a lifetime.

“I’m actually staying at his place right now while he’s finishing the album, so I’m just out there working out. He needs to chill with that house that he’s got out there. It’s just too much going on. But that was really that start of it all.”

NFL UK tweeted a picture of Beckham working out at Drake’s house on Tuesday.

OBJ’s stardom just continues to grow.
