No one knows at this point who the Browns quarterback will be, but it sounds like Robert Griffin III is more likely to get a shot in Cleveland than Colin Kaepernick.

The 49ers quarterback looked like a candidate to be dealt to the Browns, but at the league meetings on Sunday Cleveland director of football operations Sashi Brown told ESPN that those trade talks were “way over-reported.”

“Not actively engaged with San Francisco and at this point don’t anticipate being actively engaged with San Francisco,” Brown added. “But I know it’s that time of year when something can catch a headline.”

He noted that his team only engaged in “preliminary discussions” of potentially acquiring Kaepernick.

With regard to Griffin, the Browns sounded a little more optimistic though they didn’t indicate that they were close to a signing.

“I think we’re going to continue to investigate it,” head coach Hue Jackson told reporters. “It’s what we do. We don’t just jump into something just to jump in.”

One player that certainly won’t be the Browns quarterback: Johnny Manziel. The team released the embattled quarterback earlier this month, and Manziel is still looking for work. The former Texas A&M quarterback recently hired Drew Rosenhaus as his agent.
