A Chicago Blackhawks minor leaguer has been benched after being hit with felony revenge porn charges.

Garret Ross is accused of sharing photos of a woman engaged in a sexual act without her consent over the summer, multiple outlets are reporting.

Ross, who plays for the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, allegedly shared the photos in August, just two months after a new revenge porn law was established in Illinois.

“We believe (revenge porn) is a form of sexual assault,” bill co-sponsor and Illinois State Representative Scott Drury told The Huffington Post after it was passed into law. “The harm to the victim and the way they react to it is very similar: They’re not comfortable going out in public anymore; they fear being assaulted; they could be stalked. You could be someone working at Burger King, and now you’re a sex object.”

Illinois is one of 28 states with revenge porn laws, but unlike some states, the photos do not have to be posted on the Internet to result in charges.

“People can take a picture and put it on everyone’s car in the train station or mall parking lot,” Drury told the Huffington Post.

People convicted on felony revenge porn charges in Illinois face up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $ 25,000.

Ross, who was drafted by Chicago in the fifth round of the 2012 draft, has a court date next week. He’s in the final year of his rookie contract.
